Saint Julian Press presents an evening of music and poetry with poet and actress (Chocolat) Hélène Cardona and poet John FitzGerald reading from their new poetry collections Dreaming My Animal Selves (Salmon Poetry, 2013) and The Mind (Salmon Poetry, 2011) at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1015 Holman Street at Main, Houston, Texas 77004 on October 5, 2013 from 7-9 PM. A book signing will follow the free reading.
Dreaming My Animal Selves is an intriguingly surreal journey through myth, legend, fantasy, and more - all guided by a shape-shifting narrator searching far and wide for cosmic unity within the discontinuous landscape of dream and the dreamy, fragmented quality of the everyday world.
Liminal, mystical and otherworldly. This is a poet who writes in a rare light. ~ David Mason, poet laureate of Colorado
Poems that explore and claim whole worlds - embracing and beautiful. ~ Olympia Dukakis
In this extraordinary volume of soul-crafted poetry, words become wands to enchant and evoke our better angels. ~ Jean Houston, world-renowned mythologist
An intriguingly surreal journey through myth, legend, fantasy, and more... a book centered in joy, rooted firmly in the wild landscape of the imagination. ~ Brian Turner, winner of the Beatrice Hawley Award, author of Here, Bullet and Phantom Noise
The Mind is John FitzGerald’s third poetry collection and continues and expands on his insight into the myriad aspects of human emotion. The poems are philosophical; emotions are set against the 'objective' consciousness of the mind. The result is a deep exploration of what it means to be human.
This collection of poems reflects on the events in our lives that take place even while we are reaching for light in a dark world. Always out of reach, like listening to the wind, but missing the point, we stumble on. Thoughtful and leaving readers thinking, The Mind is an excellent collection and very highly recommended. ~ Midwest Book Review
FitzGerald’s The Mind is a 21st Century companion to Rainer Maria Rilke's Sonnets to Orpheus, but one endowed with an immediate, vibrant accessibility; a Hero's Journey not soon to be forgotten. ~ Marie Lecrivain for Al-Khemia Poetica
Composer and pianist John Hardesty will accompany them. As a pianist/composer, John won the 2006 Inspirational Song of the Year New Thought Songwriters Award for his Everlasting Love. His gift of creating music in the moment has inspired audiences everywhere. “John has an innate gift in translating thoughts, emotions, and feelings into music. To sit quietly and witness a live performance by John is profound beyond measure. The emotion behind his music leaves you in awe of what is truly possible for a composer. Every time I hear a recorded version or a live performance by John I am reminded of the raw emotions that live behind the music that has been created. His music is a true reflection of the man he is in the world; Powerful, Spiritual and Loving.”

John Hardesty is a composer, pianist, and recording artist with many credits to his name. His live performances and award-winning music will inspire your soul, and his gift of creating music 'in the moment' has inspired audiences everywhere. John's talent for creating music is, in a word, rare. He and his music are at once relaxing and exhilarating, peaceful and joyous, balanced and enthusiastic. It is said that music opens the heart and feeds the soul. John's music, like the man himself, is pure love, prying open our hearts, making it safe to remember who we truly are and why we're here. http://www.johnhardesty.com/
