Spent Energy

By Paula Lietz

little did I know the day I wrote

regards Paula

would be the day I began to die

desperate with my camera

validating I am alive, so I could

say yes I am here, find me, I beg you

I felt my spent energy slam back

into myself, recoiling into I, but one atom

one slowly revolving atom

caught in quantum electrodynamics

love, births and now my death

directed at ~ nothing

dispersing into the galaxy where

all of this began, the universe of discourse

and with it the darkness of my soul
