The Walk That Spoke
By Paula Lietz
is this walk what I wanted to hear
no path, nor destination but always
a damn direction no matter which way I turn
rubbish is teased and strewn by a force I cannot see
I wonder am I a strength to anything, anyone
oddly I think of Lily, the spider tending her web
she died, paralyzed by vicious stings
life muted by silent wails of one trying to survive
geese fly low on this cloudy grey day and never
have I had this need for flight be as strong as now
I will them to come back, to wait
they must not have seen the frantic waving of my arms
I turn to go home, again the direction does not matter
