REBECCA PELKY
SAINT JULIAN PRESS POET
Poems from — Horizon of the Dog Woman
RITA DEL GARDI & THE NIXON PIGEON VANISH
When you left, you left
like the tide going out.
And I know, I’ve said it
before; you left stains
like high water on my body,
where I tally each new month;
this one closer to my chin,
this one just under
my collarbone, that month
the hawks went north.
You said beauty
had ebbed, left birds
to settle down in the ridges
between my hipbones and ribs.
