MCGRATH ~ POET
N I
N A
I
am silenced
by your beauty
Fluent light of your eyes
Stainless immoveable and
lovely
Is your unbreakable
desire
The misery that you inspired
And resentment cultivated
All these like summer rain
Could not overwhelm the fountain
In love with the unbetrothed
You turned into stone
And thinking of your freedom
You only became impulsive
Now you age beyond life
And at evening recall
So much reckless dalliance
Nothing can make you smile
Yet your beauty makes me
quiet
There is water in your laughter
Even the garments you
wear
Still imply your
loveliness
What is to be said at
last
There are flaws in our
vision
Should slaves become
impassioned
By what they never
possess
