The first flower
Of the first earth
In its first age
Child of the sea
Anemone opening,
Closing in the deeper
Wave, aging, released
Finally to be singular
Within the current,
Moving over millennia
Into veins of tiny animals,
Mammoth in arctic ice,
Caves of women and men,
And on up and finally out
Through blue to black
And the enormous patience
Of light in the heavens,
Kinsman, finally, at home,
Still seeming to speak
Through the tremulous atmosphere,
Saying: Wishing is in your blood,
Your bones, you cannot stop,
It is what takes you up and out
At last, whether or not
There is an answer
To your desire
Out here everything
Answers to desire
