Such a perfect afternoon for traveling

nowhere down a forest path!

Let your feet perform a miracle.

To the famished gravity of the planet,

offer healing steps.

Give a walk, don’t take one.

 

Recycle your body, compost your mind

into worm-food, just by looking deeply.

Find unfathomable Dharma practice

in not wasting your bagel.

 

Marvel at void tulips under a Stop sign,

satori in a milkweed, trellised through spokes

of the Enso in a rusty bicycle wheel.

 

See immortal Tara’s tantric face of compassion

in a month-old dog turd, tufted

with feathers of mold in the dandelions.

 

A lanky condom looped over blossoming heather,

Nalgene bottle impeccably thrown

into suchness among wild anemones,

garden snail's aluminum Diet Pepsi home:

Garbage reveals your Buddha nature.

Picking it up is the Bodhisattva’s vow.

 

If you must throw things away, remember:

throughout countless Buddha fields, vacant lots

of raindrop-pearled abandoned cars, galaxies

of Skittles wrappers roiled like cherry blossoms

in the silent heart of Amithaba,

there is no such place

as “Away.”
