Achilles you loved too much
You went beyond this world
Only your horses knew your way
And there was no zero at all
Transcending all daylight
You exceeded your companions
For love took you everywhere
There was no one any more
There was no possible negation
The wheels were never turning
And none of us were alone for
Your aim was always true
It was your song dear Achilles
That gave us all we needed
You excelled in experience
Beyond earthly recall
You were the only lover then
Who could walk beyond the hours
And when your horses told you
That there was no end –
Your song became beautiful
Perfectly light and sonorous
You went so far out of time
Unbound by the breath of words
Yet sometimes in the quietness
Before the sun reveals her eyes
Beyond the coast reflecting
Upon an uninhabited sea –
Forms of perfect beauty show
Themselves in grey darkness
Offering their true company
To draw you from a tense world
Like blood they are unseen
Always moving in your heart
Sublime even in your sleep
When you receive their kind
Lucid in their incidence
Without weight or anguish
Their lenience and compassion
Made you justly undesiring
So you are restored in this
Suspense of all affection
As if your body was aroused
With such transparent amity
Then when the new sun warms
All colouring of life on earth
They disappeared into the light
So your vision might return
